good point victor,
i work in retail site selection and i choose isite.
isite is low cost and can be a customized solution as well. it is built on mapinfo.
i like mapinfo, arcview, etc.
they all have advantages and disadvantages
i suggest that maptitude is an excellent program and is much easier to do thematics, etc.
mapinfo takes a while to get the hang of....

As far as ease of use goes Maptitude takes the prize, Maptitude is definately easer to use right out of the box and the learning curve for advanced functions is shorter than with MapInfo. As for presentations Maptitude takes the prize again over MapInfo. The folks at caliper took great pains and effort to make a GIS application that is as user friendly as possible. They took the cartographic prep-work out of the equation, so that the user can spend less time trying to make the map look pretty and can focus on doing the actual analysis and presentation.
A few years back I did a cost comparison analysis of Maptitude vs. MapInfo and the result was a difference of over $20,000, I imagine this figure has only gone up since than. This took into account not just the cost of software but the cost of the data included with Maptitude that you have to purchase seprately from MapInfo. Although in my current position, I'm not overly concerned with current economic or demographic statitics. I have used demographic and economic statistics from MapInfo vendors and Calipers data sets are more complete and better organized. Both Maptitude and MapInfo over some nice thematic mapping wizards that utilize very nice color gradiants but given a choice Maptitudes wizards are easier to select from and the legends are easier to customize than MapInfo.

Subject: [Maptitude] Maptitude vs MapInfo
I'm curious, I've recently discovered that some people in our firm use
Maptitude and some use MapInfo. The reason for MapInfo, they claim,
is because they need demographic and economic data. I don't believe
they realize Maptitude has that capability.
My experience with MapInfo is that it was more difficult that
Maptitude. I'm curious though if it would be more suited twordes
presentation grade maps?
Anyone know the goods/bads of one versus the other?
