I think you made a perfect analysis of potential future trends for
GISDK.
The way this forum has developed, both in number of members and level of
discussion, indicates that there is a critical mass of users ready to demand
more specialized applications.
Vertical markets have been developing around GISDK and Maptitude for some
time. I think there is potential now for extending that to more and more
markets. The challenge for GISDK developers, is to be able to spot those
markets as they appear and to create new niches for GISDK products. I
think around this topic developers an users could start a fruitful debate
on what are the most promising alternatives right now and in the
future.
Reagarding GISDK code, as Larry pointed out, there is already a site with
GISDK examples at
http://www.directionsmag.com/files/ . I think that for the time being it is
an appropriate place to share our work and for GISDK begginers to get good
examples of how to do things with GISDK. I am sure in the near future
GISDK developers are going to create their own sites where they will offer and
share further material.
I support your idea of an intensive GISDK seminar. However, I think
the best place in the world for such a seminar is in Patagonia, where I am now
living. I guess Sydney is at about the same latitude as Trelew,
Argentina, but for most attendants the flight is gonna be shorter, travel
autorization should be less problematic, exchange rate more favorable,
and above all, I would have a chance to give my bussiness card to all
attendants.
Cheers
Armando

The response to the GISDK questions is
probably a reflection that the
Maptitude market has become more
sophisticated and ready for some more big
moves. It implies that most
users can make Maptitude sing and are now
discovering things that they
would need for their own individual use that
can only been done through
GISDK. There are a number of possible solutions
to this
problem....
1/ The creation of GISDK "gurus" - who will become leaders
in the Maptitude
communtity and take on the tasks of creating customised
GISDK applications
at a price....volunteers please take one step
forward.
2/ The expansion and development of more GISDK applications
into a BIG BIG
GISDK library..and I'm certain that Caliper and
others are sitting on GISDK
programs that can be added to the library.
This would encourage the
enhancement of a centralised depository for all
things GISDK...
3/ An extensive GISDK training program, perhaps over 5
working days where
people can go from beginner to boffin fairly quickly
and smoothly. A good
venue for this would be my home town of Sydney,
Australia..summer, blue
skies, good food and semi-clad beach bodies make
this the obvious location
of choice..
4/ An internet-based training
program that we can tap into as we need to (at
a modest
price)..
The development of an extensive GISDK community would be of
great benefit to
Caliper because it would allow for
1/ Ideas on the
enhancement and development of what is already a great
product
2/ a
more active Maptitude community - and as any good salesperson knows,
word-of-mouth is the best form of promotion for a product
3/
Opportunity for vertical market developments, similar to the Maptitude
for
Web but customised by industry and indentified through the GISDK chatter
that will occur. Caliper has already taken steps in that direction by
adding
the "Marketing" functions in Maptitude, but over time we could see
a
GISDK-add on for Health, Education, Retail, Finance etc etc..all on
GISDK
modules sitting on the Maptitude base....
Just an idea ladies
and gentlemen...
Now raise your right hand if you think Caliper should run
an intensive
GISDK training course in Sydney...
