Bob,
If your widgets are points then this is very easy. I routinely keep points
in SQL Server and Access and use them as layers in MT with multiple users
updating them. If you set up a DSN (using Control Panel-Administrative
Tools-Data Sources (ODBC)) pointing to just about any database you can add
any table with lat/lon in it as a point layer in a map in Maptitude (Files
of Type-ODBC Table) or use AddODBCLayer() to add it in the DK.

You can do all normal layer operations on such a
layer--update/search/delete, etc.

In the past couple of years Caliper's ODBC handling has become very stable
and dependable and is well worth using.

Subject: [Maptitude] Linking maps and reports

I keep track of widgets.

I currently use Maptitude to keep track of the location of the
widgets, and I use a database to keep track of the information about
the widgets, and also to produce reports.

I'm very happy with the maps from Maptitude, and I'm very happy with
the reports from the database software.

What I would like to do is store all the data in one place, so that
as edits are made in one location, they are automatically applied in
the other. There are multiple users involved, so importing and
exporting isn't really an option.

Currently I make new map files and new database files for each job,
even if multiple jobs use the same widgets.

I'm starting to get in over my head at this point>>>

I'm wondering if I used MySQL on a server, if I could use it to
maintain all the data, and then use Maptitude to query the server and
find the widgets I want to look at (by job number), put them on a
map, and save any changes I make back to the database. I envision
that the lat/long would be the link, and whatever attributes I needed
(widget color, widget size) would come from the database.

I would like to be able to make a map with the widgets that are
currently identified for the job, and have a method to update the map
to show whatever widgets another user identifies for the job. The set
of widgets in use changes over the course of a job, and the map
needs to be current.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

bob
