Hi Alex, Ther railroad display is a theme layer and you have to open Layer-Theme-Style(tab) to change the patterns.
Also, use 'Map-Convert labels' that makes all labels manual. Delete the ones you don't like on the map. You may also like to see the type of theme used for every layer or the selection set used to color/label/highlight each layer. These are very flexible tools to change the default cartography in Maptitude. Regards, Rudy.
