I've experienced the samething and was a bit confused as well. Maptitudes help file shed some light but I was still lefted scratching my head. Apparently the prevent overlap allows you to tell Maptitude weight the proity level in which you want layers labeled based on other layer labels, say I want my point lables to take priority over any street labels that might overlap with a point label. I kind of understood this but, like AJ I was left confused again when I unchecked the prevent labels and every label I had on for every layer suddenly cluttered up my map....why offer this option within individual layers, when if you toggle it off on one layer it toggles it off for all your layers?

Does anyone know why unchecking the "Prevent Overlapping Labels" checkbox within a layer's setting affects labels in the entire map instead of only the layer or selection set in which the box was unchecked? For example, if I want labels to be able to overlap in my point layer, unchecking the "Prevent overlapping labels" box only in the point layer's labels settings will result in overlapping street name labels as well. ???
Thanks,
A J
