It may be that the underlying layer file was opened in a read-only mode.
When adding a layer to a Maptitude map, be certain that the check box
reading "Open as read-only" is un-checked.  If the layer is already on
the map, you could drop the layer, then re-add it being certain that the
read-only option is unchecked.

When adding a column to a layer, why does Maptitude decide that it 
should be read-only and not allow you to make changes to it?  I found a 
column setting dialog box that makes you think you changed it, but that 
does not work.  I've tried everything I can think to do and it still 
comes up read-only (which pretty much defeats the purpose of adding a 
column).
