In order to do a large graphic for a public meeting, I did the following:

  - Went to Window's control panel and set up a custom paper size of 36" x 55"
(anything taller would simply not work).
  - Selected Cute PDF as my printer
  - Created a layout that was two pages wide for a total layout size of 72" x
55" One page represented the northwest, west, and southwest half of the county,
the other page the northeast, east, and southeast part of the county. Set
margins = 0 so the two maps lined up in the middle.
  - Printed to a pdf file (CutePDF)
  - Printed the PDF file, which consisted of two pages, each 36"x55"
  - Mounted the sheets onto foam board
  - Clipped the foam boards together, and ended up with a 72"x55" printout

Sounds like a pain in the but*, but actually for traveling purposes, it was
easier to haul around 2 seperate boards (36x55 each) rather than one 72" x 55"
board. I just clipped the boards together before the meeting.

This sounds like an old problem that was discussed sometime ago and someone
recommended using CutePDF, a free PDF writer. I noticed that Acrobate 5.0 and
7.0 had size limitation of no greater than 45" x 45". CutePDF doesn't have any
size constrants, the largest map I've printed from a Maptitude layout to PDF
was 42" x 74" using CutePDF.

I'll have to play around with Distiller and see how that works.

Bob, I’ve had your same problem too many times. The solution is pretty
simple. In your Acrobat Distiller advanced options, turn down the graphics
print quality to no higher than 600dpi. Do that and try creating a large PDF.

Subject: Re: [Maptitude] Map size Did you need to do something special to
get that to work? I've got
Acrobat 5.0, and there seems to be a limit on size. I can set up
large paper sizes, but the output clips to about 24" wide. Anything
wider than that I've either had to print directly to the printer or
import into Illustrator first. It would be really nice to be able to
print to Acrobat first, because then I could proof my stuff on
screen!
