Fellow Maptituders,

Happy new year!

I have uploaded a new utility to the Directions Magazine website. It
is free and open source (GPL v3).

Leader Lines is an application that adds labels with leader lines to a
map. It is designed for Maptitude 5.0 (it will compile and run on
earlier versions, but some functions may not work entirely as desired).

Normally, if you want to add a label with a leader line, you would
need to:

1) Draw a freehand line between the desired points on your map
2) Right-click on the line to set its attributes (color, line style,
thickness, arrowhead)
3) Add freehand text at the end of the line
4) Right-click on the text to set its attributes (font style, color,
frame behavior)
5) Adjust the final placement of the text once its attributes have
been set

This is no problem if you just have just a couple of labels to add.
But if you have lots of labels to add or lots of maps to make, it can
get tedious. Leader Lines allows you to set all of the desired
behaviors in advance, and place the lines and labels with greater
precision.

Admittedly, this is a pretty dumb application. But it can be quite
useful for the right person!

Leader Lines supports arrows, frames, and
other good stuff. You may download it for free at
