Joseph:
To create a border around selected polygoons, as I would approach it, you are
merging those polygons into a new consolidated polygon. The default MT format
is the compressed uneditable format. To do this, you must be working with a geo
base file in Maptitude standard format that allows you to edit and save new map
features. So you have 2 options:

You can select the polygons you want to merge, use the Tools/Export command and
select the MT Standard format for the export file. Then add that file as a
layer to your project map and then merge the polygons to create the new
"Border" for that area.

If you need to do this multiple times, it would be easiest to export the entire
compressed reference layer into the standard format, open that new editable
layer, open the dataview, add a datafield in which you assign a common value to
all polygons you want to merge into a new polygon. Once you have coded all
areas that you want to merge to create Area A, Area B, etc....then run the
Merge by Value tool on the new data field and all of your polygons will be
created. If you want MT to calculate values for the new areas from the
underlying layer, be sure during the Merge by Value process to check the box,
allowing you to select the fileds and the instructions of how to aggregate the
data to create data values for the new areas

I hope that is clear enough for your to follow.

Subject: [Maptitude] Easy question

So, this is probably a ridiculously easy question...but I am a novice user. I
am trying to select multiple counties on a map and create a border around the
selected counties. When I try and do this with the selection set tool the
border capability is disabled - it will allow me to fill, shde, etc, but no
border. Can someone tell me an easy way to accomplish this task?

Thanks in advance,

Joseph
