Months ago, I inquired about pen-input tables for use with Maptitude.

New Wacom models were due this spring so I withheld making a decision.

FYI, here are a couple of the new models that just came out:

Cintiq 22HD Touch (Part DTH2200) $2,499

DTH-2242 (Part DTH2242) $2,199

The really interesting advancement is that these models feature pen-input AND
touch. I'm thinking the touch controls could be a productivity enhancer. For
example, while selecting with the pen (the thing I do most), my left hand could
use touch gestures for scrolling the page left/right/up/down without having to
switch from a selection tool to the Zoom In, Zoom Out, and Pan tools and back
to the selection tool. (Of course mouse scroll wheels and keyboard equivalents
might minimize changing tools but I'm guessing not quite as well. And the units
are expensive!).

The Wacom site suggests that the DTU line has been mostly targeted for
cartography but the price difference isn't significant between the Cintiq 22HD
Touch and the DTH-2242 to me so I'm leaning towards the Cintiq (I don't need
the video pass-through on the DTH-2242 and it appears the Cintiq has a few more
features).

Any thoughts on the productivity value of using a touch/pen display or
significant differences between the two models?

By the way, a new Yiynova 22 inch pen-input HD screen similar to Wacom products
is due out this summer. It lacks touch features and probably won't be as
refined as Wacom but is expected to cost considerably less.

Thoughts?
