Well, I tried building Mariadb with the HP compiler and I ran into a problem with anonymous unions. In 5.3.2 the anonymous unions (and anonymous struct) in st_dynamic_column_value were changed to have names. This change does not seem to be in 5.5. I don't know if that is intentional or accidental but it makes it more difficult to compile the 5.5 code with the HP compiler.
