Consumers typically avoid advertising where possible, but if the ad is
engaging they will interact with it. One of the most significant problems
with the introduction of digital technologies has been that quality has
been replaced with quantity. Consumers are now overwhelmed with
advertising which creates diminishing returns for advertisers.

Richard Greenfield of Fulcrum Global Partners on Viacom's move to split
up the company in early 2006, separating cable networks and the film
studio from broadcast networks: "We believe splitting the company is
positive for Viacom shares and we are increasingly confident that
Sumner Redstone will follow through with the split. Viacom's best asset
has always been its cable network franchise, with the strength of its
cable networks increasingly 'polluted' by acquired businesses. Cable
networks, packaged with a small but rebounding film business should
offer a very attractive investment proposition."
