--------------------------------------------------------------------- The Evening Bridge - June 13, 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------------- TOP STORY - The Supreme Court today declined to review the Federal Communications Commission's media-ownership rules, a move that will force commissioners to rewrite some of its regulations and make a better attempt to justify others. In a statement, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said he's looking forward to working with commissioners to reevaluate the media ownership rules. Jonathan Adelstein, one of two Democrats on the five-member FCC panel, said the Supreme Court decision "is a rare victory for the public over some of the most powerful corporations in America. The American public is concerned about concentration in the media, and our court system has rightly responded." Michael Copps, the other Democratic commissioner, concurred, saying the FCC "has a fresh opportunity now to come up with a set of rules to encourage localism, competition, and diversity in our media."
