TOP STORY -- A group made up of EchoStar and small cable and
telecommunications interests, including the American Cable Association,
sent a letter to Capitol Hill today addressing what it said is the ongoing
abuse of retransmission consent rules. The group's letter, which was
sent to all House and Senate members, called retransmission
consent "outdated" and claimed that the regulations make it difficult "for
distributors to provide consumers with high-quality advanced services
at reasonable prices." Details of the letter will be in Friday's SkyREPORT.

"According to the latest reports from the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH)
Council, by October 2005 more than 650 communities across the nation
were serving subscribers via optical fiber to the home. That's a 200
percent jump over the year earlier numbers and it represented more
than 322,700 connected homes," reports The BRIDGE. "To be sure, a
large number of those 650 connected communities have a big Verizon
sign over them... However, notes fiber research guru Michael Render of
Render, Vander-slice & Associates, 'Until a year ago, the majority (of
FTTH communities) were non-RBOCs.' And in terms of successful take
rates, the smaller telcos and cooperatives continue to score the majority
of home runs." For more on The BRIDGE and to subscribe, visit:
