TOP STORY - BellSouth released details today of its modified plan to
reduce its management workforce. The telco said it would eliminate
about 1,300 employees, down from an initial estimate of 1,500 lay-offs
first announced in December. BellSouth said it expects most of the
reductions will be completed by the end of May. An after-tax charge of
about $100 million will be recorded this year related to the workforce
reduction initiative, with about $85 million recorded in the second
quarter, the company said.
