TOP STORY -- San Francisco city commissioners selected Google and
EarthLink to provide free wireless access throughout the city. The
Department of Telecommunications and Information Services said late
yesterday that the city will begin contract negotiations with EarthLink
and Google to create a widely available wireless broadband network
across San Francisco. EarthLink and Google are working with wireless
equipment suppliers Motorola and Tropos Networks to construct a
mobile network for residents, businesses, municipal government and
visitors.

"...Given that satellite TV aims to strengthen its product with a large
slate of HDTV and bigger DVRs, (and) a new competitor - the telco
company - is beginning to roll out video and annoy the cable incumbent
with deregulatory pushes and a roll out of fiber-based video offerings...
What is cable doing to keep a step ahead of the competition?" the pub
asks. "Rolling out more digital, which means more video-on-demand
(and) improving its broadband product with faster speeds and a bigger
selection of offerings. And cable is debuting voice, which completes its
triple-play." Find out more in this week's edition of The BRIDGE at
