1. Export to LaTeX*. Support for LaTeX in OOo was limited to the OOoLaTeX extension, which allows one to interface to a TeX engine by typing an equation in LaTeX-style, calling the TeX engine, and inserting a PNG of the typeset result into the OOo document.
We used to have built-in LaTeX export from within OOo Writer, with decent results; then the component (which, if I recall correctly, was named Writer2LaTeX or similar) was moved back to a stand-alone project and removed from OOo. I never tested this on math formulas, I just tested it on basic Writer documents.
then LibO could become like "LyX," a GUI for LaTeX, but better.
While we do have a formula editor and basic tools, it would be rather hard to build a LaTeX export that can work "the LaTeX way", much like the HTML export suffers from unavoidable artificial conversions.
