If you have a LUG in your area, go to a meeting, introduce yourself, be
prepared to tell people what we are up to, where they can find us.

You do not not need to speak for anyone beyond yourself - You support
FOSS, you support LibreOffice, you want to share something.

Thanks Drew. Of course this is right. Having feet on the ground and meeting with LUGs are important. For this you certainly do not need any kind of title as anyone can share their passion, feelings and knowledge this way. Grass root efforts are definitely the way to go in N. Amer. to start off with. This is if there are enough LUG's and LibO people to meet with them.

Titles - forgive me for speaking bluntly here - not important at this
juncture and the discussion of them is really just a distraction we
don't need. As for structure - EU has a bunch - well, who says we want
that same structure in the NA efforts. I for one would rather see a much
more grass roots organization, at least for libreOffice - seriously, we
need some titles of course, they will come in due time.

However, if we are to approach larger groups, such as associations, business organisations, school boards etc, and yes, even LUGs, that are deeply seated in the "title" concept, then they will most likely question you about your role with LibO and if you cannot explain your role and explain that your title is in waiting, well, then they will also say, come back when you know what your role is with LibO as we get enough of people asking for attention. These organisations just simply do not have the time of day for John Doe to come and present to them a new office suite when the proprietary office suite people are flooding them with official representatives. You would not make it into the line.

A title, even if temporary, will at least award you a bit of attention. And the clear bonus, in these cases, is that, only one person can pave the way by sending off emails to the appropriate people in these organisations.

just some thoughts,

Drew
