Hello,
The question can seem a little wierd, but it's a doubt of mine.
As a FOSS, Libreoffice can be recorded into a media (CD/DVD or
so), and that media can be sold by anyone. So, anyone could print
some labels on those medias in a profesional way, and use it to
make money. My question is: Can someone use LibreOffice brand/logo
in that label or boxes/envelopes?
And what about stuff like pendrives, coffee cups, pens, patches,
etc?
What are the rules for using LibreOffice brand/logo?
If it is alright to do, I would like to think a donation would be given
to LibreOffice.
Nice, yes, but certainly not necessary... but that wasn't his question.
I know that for selling CD/DVD, I would only get the cost out of the
media and postage. I do not like to make any real profit from open
source software.
He wouldn't be making profit from the software, he'd be making profit on
his efforts - nothing wrong with that.
Those items are good marketing items. I know that you can get cups on a
single unit basis, but I have never seen the others made in small unit
batches.
Paulo, I can't answer your question, hopefully one of the board members
will chime in with legal requirements about the logo...
I was just saying the profit issue since I have seen people charge $20
USD for a OOo install CD/DVD last year. "They/He" were not even
offering any other service with the sale, like support or anything
else. That is what I hate.
I love the idea of people selling the media version for enough money to
cover the media costs and the shipping cost. That is needed for those
who have dial-up and/or need to install LibreOffice [or other packages]
on many systems. I usually eat the media costs when I distribute these
types of CD/DVDs locally, but there are those that want to give me a
blank CD/DVD to replace what I used for them.
On the Logo issue, I love to see LibreOffice mugs, tote-bags, and
tee/sweat shirts. I use to make iron on bags with old time railroad
logos to sell for raising funds for the local railroad historical
group. They went fast then, but today's "market" for such items may not
like iron ons. I have a "box" of them half full and I may just see if
the sheets are still good.
