Oh, that is disappointing.  :(

A Kexi dev appeared on the Users List a few weeks ago and said that since the 
fork away from KOffice there has been a lot of development to minimise the 
amount of cruft/bloat needed.  He specifically said that you don't need to 
install the entire K Desktop Environment to get Kexi on Gnu&Linux but i assumed 
that would be true for other platforms too.  He didn't say exactly when the 
need for cruft/bloat had been removed and i have not tried Kexi.

Not that I want to put a downer on your suggestion, but have you
actually tried installing and running Kexi on Windows and Mac ?

On the Mac, you have to download and install the kde environment via
macports or fink and then compile and install the koffice port from
that...simplicity is not the word here, not to mention all the cruft
that you end up putting on your system for no apparently good reason.
