Is there a way to run our own Nabble server? If I remember correctly,
the use of Nabble was originally just a temporary thing until we got our
own forums up and running.
If this is the case, should we be looking instead at a forums (which we
have already done and chosen two forums to pick from -- phpBB or
jforum). Should we not spend our energy and $$$ on this instead?
we have been discussing this, indeed, but I don't remember the exact
outcome. IMHO, several forums had been tested, and we ended up with,
IIRC, jBulletin, or somesuch. But I don't know when/if that will be made
available, and whether that will support integration with our mailing
lists.
Christian Lohmaier was the one working on jBulletin, maybe he has more
details - I really lost plot on this. :/

You can pick up on the conversation here[1] for the 2 choices.
Prior to this we had a couple of people interested in managing the
forums, few people were interested in moderating, but IMO, we would be
able to find people for this for our user base. The final decision was
put on hold till we got the Ask.LibreOffice.org online and working,
which has been done.
Cheers,
Marc
