Dear all,
OSC has vacancies for the upcoming summer season for EXPERIENCED passive
acoustic monitoring (PAM) operators.
The PAM operator must have the minimum of 12 weeks experience operating
a PAM system, six weeks of which must have been a lead position (stated
on CV). They must have the ability to install a basic operating system
and PAM software (e.g. PAMGUARD and IFAW) software onto new laptops, set
up National Instrument sound cards, and configure PAM with a hydrophone
array and portable GPS unit or with vessel's NMEA (satellite) comms.
They must also be competent deploying and recovering the hydrophone
array in a range of situations, and they must be skilled in the acoustic
identification of marine mammals. The PAM operator will also be required
to trouble shoot software and hardware issues independently.
Previous OSC applicants need not apply and candidates without the
experience mentioned above need not apply. Applicants should possess the
minimum of an undergraduate science-based degree (including engineering)
with a minimum grade of upper second class honours (2.1), valid offshore
survival training certificates and associated medicals. Preference will
be given to candidates that also hold valid certificates for work in
Norwegian and Dutch waters. Early applicants may be considered for a job
commencing 15^April 2011.
