The Research Scientist conducts research in support of the Polar Ecosystems Program at the Marine Mammal Laboratory and the JISAO project, Ecology of Arctic Seals. The primary research activities are aerial surveys and associated data processing for assessment of seal populations, and satellite telemetry studies of seal movements, foraging behavior, and habitat requirements. This project was designed to assess population status and to gain a better understanding of the factors responsible for the dynamics of Arctic and sub-Arctic seal populations, their roles in marine ecosystems, and impacts of climate variability and other human activities.
