New publication: Echolocation characteristics of franciscana dolphins (*Pontoporia blainvillei*) (Diogo D. Barcellos and Marcos C. de O. Santos)
Dear All, We are pleased to share our new publications in Marine Mammal Science, “Echolocation characteristics of franciscana dolphins (*Pontoporia blainvillei*)” by Diogo D. Barcellos, and Marcos C. de O. Santos from Laboratório de Biologia da Conservação de Mamíferos Aquáticos, Instituto Oceanográfico da Universidade de São Paulo. The franciscana dolphin, *Pontoporia blainvillei*, is a small odontocete and the sole living member of Pontoporiidae. Its distribution is restricted to the coastal shallow waters in the limited regions of southwestern Atlantic Ocean. The study “Echolocation characteristics of franciscana dolphins (*Pontoporia blainvillei*)” describes echolocation clicks of this species around Anchieta Island, southeastern Brazil, using a non-invasive methodology. Acoustic parameters described by this study provide new tools for further investigations and future conservation action of *Pontoporia blainvillei* in local waters.
