Note: there may be minor adjustments as we finalize the schedule. We will send out a final schedule before the workshop. Created in 2005, the Cachalote Consortium provides a special opportunity for researchers and students to explore our current understanding of sperm whale biology and ecology, sociality and culture, and the evolving dimensions of human interactions affecting them. It is also an opportunity to discuss traditional and emerging field and analytical methods, sharing and data standardization, and research collaboration. The workshop is designed to be interactive, with short talks and lots of discussion. We have a terrific group of international researchers in attendance and are excited to hear about your interests, ideas, and research on sperm whales. Thank you in advance for sharing these with us! Information for presenters (in person and virtual): You are more than welcome to speak with/without a PowerPoint presentation and/or PDF slides. If you are using a slide deck, upload it to this Google Drive<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nJRWUH5uwVlpei2ByHat4xHzu6YLYk_e?usp=sharing> no later than noon (UTC-4) Friday October 16. Please name your slides as Lastname_Firstname (e.g. Mesnick_Sarah.ppt). The slides will be shared with attendees - unless you reach out and ask us not to. If you are presenting virtually, we will ask you to share your screen, and run your presentation from your computer (but we will have a copy of your slide, in case of technical difficulties). After presenting, please remember to stop sharing, so we can quickly load up the next talk. If you are presenting in-person, to ensure smooth logistics, your slides will be downloaded by the organizers the day before and run from the podium computer (not your personal computer). The meeting will be recorded, and all presentations (but not discussion time) will be posted online to share with attendees and other interested members of the sperm whale research community, unless you reach out and ask us to share your presentation. Please review the agenda at this link<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EDY_PU6KviMaXwejF-j_amLhRlJPL5Kg/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=117038817778138348350&rtpof=true&sd=true> and let us know (or add a comment on the agenda) if you are unable to present at your assigned time or would like to update your presentation title. And please allow for time for questions within your allotted time. We encourage each speaker to close their presentation with one thought-provoking question which can be, methodological, theoretical, or other, that could be addressed by the group. We will wrap up each theme with general questions and discussion to identify “hot topics” and gaps in investigations that may help researchers coordinate and collaborate. General information: Captioning/simultaneous translation is available in multiple languages in Zoom. For all participants, we encourage you to ask questions and engage in the discussion. For online participants, questions can be asked at the end of presentations through the chat box in the Google Meet platform to be read aloud by the session moderator. To allow participants to focus on the presentations and shared discussion, please do not respond to questions or have discussions in the chat box. Yes, there is time for others to participate as attendees; feel welcome to share this Google form<https://forms.gle/Pn7hYzFHiUv3anSa6> to register. Please reach out if you have any questions. Wish us luck in navigating the hybrid meeting and virtual platform! We thank you in advance for your patience. See you soon!
