"Parsing: a timeline"
<http://jeffreykegler.github.io/Ocean-of-Awareness-blog/individual/2014/09/chron.html>
is now my most popular blog post ever, and yesterday was the busiest day
on my website ever. It's a surprise hit, because it's also the most
technical post I've ever dared put on the blog, and because it contains
no examples of code. Absence of a code example in the past has been
pretty much a sure-fire indicator that, however highly I think of a
post, it is doomed to sink to the bottom without a ripple.
I think its secret may be that every line actually contains a lot of
work -- some of the observations are the result of months working with a
particular algorithm. I've studied parsing on and off since 1971, and
have done so full-time for the past 7 years, and perhaps readers sense
the thought and effort behind each short phrase.
