It was such a struggle installing it on my local Linux machine (biggest problem was with Compress::Zlib) that I am not too optimistic that our sysadmin will want to spend that much time fighting with incompatible Perl library versions.

Do you by any chance distribute a version of the Biomart Perl API that does not rely on Compress::Zlib ? I think that would ease installation tremendously.
