I just had a quick run on Fedora's default J 1.6, it doesnt work. This
may well be Fedora's J that I always had troubles in the past. Anyways,
its not tested on J 1.6 and support beyond J 1.5. However, the next
BioMart release will fully support J 1.6.

I did try a quick test of MartBuilder on 1.6 before I left the EBI but
there were some interesting subtle changes in the default values in
Swing particularly which made it slightly less usable (e.g. default
opacity settings for background colours on Components). I'd just like
to see the official version of martj and all it's sub-components
checked and validated by the 'official authorities' (you guys!) so
that people can be sure that it will work on 1.6.

Hi guys.
What are the plans for moving to making Java 1.6 the minimal
version required to run the martj components?
Sun will officially drop Java 1.5 support later this month. As Java
6 has never been released for older 32-bit and non-PowerPC Macs,
effectively it means that for these machines Java will no longer
be officially supported at all, therefore taking martj with it.
Java 1.5 will also no longer be available to install from the
repositories in Ubuntu Linux from version 10.04 onwards.
cheers,
Richard
