A few rushed lines. Please forgive any misspelling etc. I know Louis loves to pick up
on
such things.

You don't get it Rob. I am not saying that one should be ascetic. I never suggested
this.
I never said anything about avoiding fun or engaging in pleasurable activities of one
sort
or another. I never said that commies must stand austerely outside Christmas. Don't
misrepresent me. But that does not mean one cannot tap away for a half hour on the pc
to
other commies. Why do so many so called commies forget about their comrades and sink
themselves so happily into all the so called non-commie life --relatives and in laws in
particular at a time when the conventional family is such a charade. It is almost as if
they make a point in proving that these relatives whom they hardly see or interact with
mean more than communist comrades. Almost their way of saying that they are normal
--as if
the conventions at Christmas are normal and healthy. Anyway how many people really
enjoy
Christmas. Many pretend they do. On Christmas day many people dine with relatives they
feel uncomfortable with --including in-laws. Christmas is among the more lonely times
of
the year for many. It is the time when there is probably more family violence and
rows. It
is a lot of nonsense to say that Christmas is fun. Mothers with children and little
money
are put under great pressure at Christmas. Christmas may be fun for the rich who have
the
bread and from whom the working class buy in the Christmas buying frenzy.

Surely commies can enjoy themselves when they choose. I certainly don't need Christmas
to
enjoy myself --to drink and eat and socialise. My social life is of a quality that is
not
dependent on these bourgeois constructs --like Christmas. I can have fun too at may
day or
on the weekend. I dont need Christmas to invite friends to my home to have a party.

Cop on! Christmas is a sham. It makes even less sense now when people in the West have
greater access to confectionary etc. In the past people ate more austerely.
Consequently b
aking cakes etc was an occassion which made Christmas in a sense special. Today kids in
the west get toys, have pcs, toys, videos and confectionary --even drugs-- in a way
that
they didn't when Scrooge was around.

Warm regards

Bugger all this asceticism! It doesn't say anywhere a leftie can't enjoy a
bit of convivial excess with his or her fellow human beings, does it? As
Monty Python almost said, I wasn't expecting a phalanx of sombre Franciscan
friars! So Jesus wasn't actually born on this date, so it's a colonised
pagan feast further transformed by crass commercial opportunism, so Jesus is
not quite our chap (did enjoy that bit about the turning of the merchant's
tables, though), so what? After all, as the saying almost goes, all serious
theorising and no wanton Bacchanalia makes lefties dull boyz'n'galz.

In my selfless way, I shall be downing a foamy jar for each of you!

A very happy Thaxmas to all!
Rob.
