In any case, what defines *left* discussion of Hegel is that it emphasizes his *method* in contradistinction to his *system* (see Marcuse's "Reason and Revolution," IMHO the best left discussion of Hegel). Shane Mage ^^^^ CB: I'm sure it was the legal requirement. So, the thought pops up that Hegel was really an atheist, but needed the political cover, or something like that ? It's popped into my mind from time to time. West may need the political cover, too. I think Hegel had some idea that philosophy and theology overlap in subject matter. Theology uses images. Philosophy does not.
