Uh, before we go off still yet further into the ether of 'pro-labor'
rhetoric--much of it reading like Democratic Party press
releases--let's just remind ourselves why Ford, Chrysler, and GM
exist. They are run by management to make profits for shareholders
(with management and shareholding often going together). These
companies' existence in a capitalist country as part of a US-dominated
system is based on making money for their ownership. They are not here
to make cars, they are not here to employ people and make sure they
get good health care and a nice retirement. Their finance divisions
and financial officers would even speculate on the future price of
shit if it looked profitable. If you start from that simple idea, you
find you can focus much better.
