I should have said, he doesn't have to worry too much about losing the Democrats who are left of him on the key issues (I mean the Kucinich, Gravel, and Edwards supporters, most significantly the Edwards supporters in terms of sheer numbers). He can't lose the independent vote if it isn't registered to vote. If he could get the Hispanics (of all races, not counting many of the Cuban Americans who are part of Repug axis in Florida) enthusiastic about his presidency, the impact on vote counts would be huge. Nevada shows he can do that. OTOH, the white male NE ethnic strategy looks tempting too, if he can find any of the sort of high profile needed. If Obama got elected, the far bigger challenge would be running the militarist national security state, who would collectively try to create crises for his administration.
