For someone who claims to know more about the Ukraine crisis than anyone else
on the list you seem oblivious to the most elementary facts:

1. The Euromaidan politicians have always been gung-ho to join NATO, using the
same pretext as the US and West European politicians from the time the
organization was founded - that it was a "defensive" alliance against Soviet,
and now Russian, "expansion".

Following the Orange Revolution in 2005, when Yushchenko and Tymoshenkp became
heads of state, Ukraine entered into the Intensified Dialogue programme with
NATO, culminating in March 2008, with Ukraine's officially application to join
the alliance.

2. The application to join NATO was immediately shelved, however, on the coming
to power of the Yanukovych government, which drew its main support from ethnic
Russians in eastern Ukraine.

3. Last week, Tymoshenko reiterated her call for Ukraine to join NATO, and
predicted that the move would now be supported by a majority of Ukrainians.
