Apologies if this has been posted, but I don't recall it. Paul Mason has a fascinating and useful piece in the Guardian on what is happening across Scottish society. It backs up Hilary Wainwright's account and indicates regardless of the final outcome, the process is shaking up Scotland and drawing ordinary people into politcal discussions and organising on a scale not seen in recent years. "Something incredible is happening in Scotland <http://www.theguardian.com/uk/scotland>. The little pin badges – Yes or No – that people wear are sparking open conversation: in the pub, the swimming baths, the post office queue. An entire country of 5 million people is asking itself, sometimes quite vociferously, what it wants to be." http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/aug/31/scottish-independence-yes-vote-turnout-polls Also, while I agree a little bit with Dave on Neil Davidson's piece (though it is not that terrible a piece on the scale of things), I also think he has a very good point on "working class unity" -- that is it is *not* just unity between Scottish workers with English and Welsh workers, but the international working class. And the question of whether that unity is better served as part of the imperialist "union" or outside of it... it seems pretty obvious to me that the interests of those working class people in countries that are victims of British imperialist crimes are far better served by the Scottish workers undermining the British imperialist state and opting out of it.
