Here is a comment I made to a few comrades about Annis's latest obscenity (link at end): I don't know how much direct rebuttal is worthwhile - although comrades should definitely click the "facebook debate" link at the end. And it may be worth a counter to his denial in footnotes that Russia is imperialist. Leaving that aside, IMO short rebuttals ARE worth doing to counter his slimy misrepresentation here of last Friday's heroic rallies: "The agreement has been welcomed in Syria and among Syrians who have been forced to leave their country. It is also welcomed by many of those in opposition to the Syrian government (though this is difficult to quantify from afar). *Associated Press*, for example, reported on March 4 <http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/S/SYRIA?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT> on rallies taking place in the eastern sector of the city of Aleppo, in the Waer neighborhood of Homs and in Idlib province calling on the Syrian government to release detainees from prisons and lift several sieges on opposition areas. The rallies 'reflected a sense of relief amid the ceasefire that has mostly held since it went into effect across the country last Saturday [February 28]”, says AP.'" Only a stone-cold Stalinist could turn a hundred anti-regime rallies into a handful of pacifist "pro-ceasefire" celebrations. [obscenity redacted :) It might also be worth examining Annis's trajectory over the years. Was he a Barnesite? Does he have much influence now? Annis's column is at: http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/03/08/ceasefire-is-an-opportunity-for-syria-and-for-the-world/ _________________________________________________________ Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm Set your options at: http://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
