With the passing of this Monty Python alumni, it might be useful to point out that he was a serious scholar who was a Chaucer scholar and wrote books on ancient and medieval history. In 2008, I reviewed a BBC series he narrated on the Goths, et al, making the case that they were far more civilized than the Romans. My review has links to the series and to a book based on it. It is truly great revisionist history that will give you an entirely new perspective on "the barbarians".
