Brazil, specially it's O Globo network, have been BIG players and for some time. For some reason they tend to export period pieces set it the 1700s or 1800s. Argentina was a pioneer, making a big hit with "Nino" in the 1960s, but fell on hard times and lost pre-eminence. It still contributes a few novelas a year to the international market and Peru has entered the market as well, although most of its production is geared to its internal market. Most surprisingly, South Korea has entered the Latin American soap opera market with some success. If workers empowerment and revolution can be woven into a telenovela, and done well, it could be significant. The question is would foreign networks buy it... -- - Juan ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: [email protected] Set your options at: http://lists.econ.utah.edu/mailman/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
