If you use Microsoft Movie Maker, the free editing program, you can jack
up the sound in that before you save the file that you have edited.

You need to be careful about buying a camera that creates mod files.
These require an extra step of conversion to something Moviemaker can
edit. Unless of course you find software to edit the mod files directly.

I think you will do fine with the camera with SD cards. I have used a
cheap RCA Small Wonder with OK results, nothing great but usable. 

The other issue is battery life. I use rechargeable Eneloop batteries in
the RCA SM and they last a longgggggggg time. Of course the other
advantage of solid state cameras using SD cards is improved battery
life.

Looking forward to seeing what you got at the Left Forum. I agree that
this is technology we should master.
