The guy was clearly bonkers. But his action was premeditated, well planned and carefully targeted. WHY did he target a Democratic Party Congresswoman instead of the milkman, the mayor, or a Mormon missionary? Why didn't he go shoot up the College that had tossed him out, for example? All of last year Congresswoman Giffords had been the victim of a vicious Republican-Tea Party campaign that inspired all sorts of abuse, insults and slanders. There had been threats against her and her office has been vandalized. After the attack on her office, Giffords called on political and community leaders to unite to put a stop to the violent, extremist rhetoric: "We can't stand for this. This is a situation where they really need to realize that the rhetoric and firing people up, and for example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the way she has this depicted is a cross hairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to understand there are consequences to that action." This terrorist attack was a consequence of the Republican and Tea Party campaign to whip up a hysteria against the Democrats and especially demonize those the Republicans were targeting, like Giffords. But NOT, contrary to our mendacious media, due to the "polarization" of U.S. politics. There is no such polarization, since there is no "left" left in the United States. The right treated her as an enemy, not just an electoral rival or ideological opponent. By doing so they set her up as a target for this terrorist attack.
