On The Murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti CMKP Punjab The murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti is a catastrophe on a national scale. The Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party Punjab condemns this cold blooded assassination of the most senior nationalist figure in Balochistan. All democratic parties across the spectrum are united in the condemnation of this assassination and murder by the Pakistan army. By undertaking this action, the armed forces of Pakistan have further undermined the unity of Pakistan and have propelled the nationalist movement in Balochistan towards secession and independence from Pakistan. The attempt by the establishment to create the impression that US imperialism is behind a plan to divide the Middle East and Pakistan along ethnic lines by repeatedly quoting the article written by Ralph Peters in a US Armed Forces Journal is simply a red herring. The fact of the matter is that if anyone is responsible for the further development of the nationalist movement in Pakistan and the further division of Pakistan, it is the armed forces of Pakistan. By denying all the people of Pakistan the opportunity to engage in a truly free and fair democratic process, by building mega projects in a manner that do not benefit the people of Balochistan, by trampling on the national rights, culture and heritage of the Baloch people, by viciously exploiting the natural resources of Balochistan and by treating the Baloch as second class citizens, the Pakistan army is responsible for policies that are leading to the complete alienation of the Baloch people. And now by assassinating Nawab Akbar Bugti along with his two grandsons, the Pakistan army has in fact murdered the elements within the Baloch nationalist movement that were reconciliatory and ready to negotiate. The Pak Army has demonstrated that far from being ready to talk to voices of moderation, they will engage in the wanton murder of anyone who raises their voice for the legitimate national rights of the Baloch people. As predicted, there is a complete breakdown of law and order in Balochistan and we can expect that this will continue for the foreseeable future. Not merely the entire province but the entire country has come under strict martial law as security has been tightened in every major city of Pakistan. Various elements of the Baloch national movements are already beginning to and should continue to, unite against what is openly becoming a policy of wanton aggression by the establishment. The national rights of the Baloch is not a question that should exclusively concern the Baloch. It is a question which should concern all nations of Pakistan. People of all four provinces need to unite to defend their national and democratic rights which are been usurped by the armed forces of Pakistan. In this moment of grief, sorrow and anger, the Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party Punjab expresses its heartfelt solidarity with the people of Balochistan and with the Baloch nationalist movement. In this regard, as CMKP Punjab President, I instruct all comrades in the Punjab to immediately organise, in collaboration with progress and nationalist forces, rallies and protests against this foul murder and in defence of the democratic and national rights of the Baloch people. Down with military dictatorship! Taimur Rahman President Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party Punjab
