Peter of course makes a good point -- I don't think the white working class is actually "pro-capitalist" but they are definitely anti-communist which includes being anti-socialist (I think it's mostly younger people who have a relatively favorable view of "socialism" --- whatever that actually means to folks). --- worse, the white working class has been sold a bill of good about their white privilege --- from the period since Reconstruction to the present, the lower class white population has produced many people who --- a la Bob Dylan --- are "only a pawn in their game!"
This worked in spades for Trump last time around and the emphasis on violence that the Republicans are pushing is a strong effort to remind working class whites that they may be knocked down by K-ism but "at least" they aren't --- black, brown, "colored immigrants", etc. --- THat leads too many white workers to make common cause with capitalists even if they don't particularly "like" capitalism ... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
