Very interesting article --- I have a vague memory that the actual SPLIT
between followers of "Jesus" (whoever he was) and Jews occurred when
Bar-Kochbar (sp?) led the uprising that ended with the final defeat of
Jewish resistance, the destruction of the Temple and the massacre at
Massada. According to the text I read (back in the 1950s mind you) in
Hebrew School, the supporters of Bar-Kochbar stated that he was "the
Messiah" --- this led the "Judeo-Christians" to break completely from the
Jews claiming that from their point of view the figure they called "the
Christ" had been the Messiah --- they identified themselves as Christians
and the rest is history ...

(Have no idea if this simple story has been revised by subsequent writings
but I find it interesting that this article, from 1971, doesn't even
mention Bar-Kochbar --- nor the "Christian" disassociation from the Jewish
revolt in 66-70 ...)
