Jim's point assumes that these two "halves" of the Republican party will be
of somewhat equal strength --- but if the "establishment" is actually quite
weak and has very little support they will be totally defeated ---   In
some sense, the question of how strong the "regulars" half is, will depend
on what the donor class does!
