It is good to look at the statistical data. But we should remember that the pandemic is not over yet. It is likely that the statistics will become much worse.
The number of cases has been growing exponentially. Lockdowns have been introduced in many countries to prevent this exponential growth from getting out of control. In Victoria, a state of Australia, the number of cases was growing exponentially and reached more than 700 per day. The state government introduced lockdown measures and compulsory mask wearing. This brought the number down to zero after a couple of months. New outbreaks periodically occur due to people coming from interstate and overseas. These are dealt with by quarantine and contact tracing. It is true that COVID-19 has been used as a pretext for repression.
