Dear comrades --- I don't know how many people on this list regularly read "establishment economics" but for those who don't I recommend a short piece that is available through this link:
1) The *Review of Keynesian Economics (ROKE)* is pleased to announce publication of Volume 9 (1). All the abstracts and two free articles are available on the website *[HERE] <https://www.elgaronline.com/view/journals/roke/9-1/roke.2021.9.issue-1.xml>* . One of the free articles is *Professor Robert Shiller’s* 2020 Godley-Tobin Memorial Lecture titled “*Animal spirits and viral popular narratives”*. Robert Shiller is a rare bird among establishment economists --- he is constantly writing about the irrationality of capitalism (though he does not emphasize the "capitalism" just the "irrationality" as if it were a constant for all humanity all the time!) -- The piece mentioned here can be access by hitting the blue "HERE" above and then clicking on the pdf for the article. He presents an epidemiology (sp?) model of how economies grow too fast and contract too fast --- His idea is "narrative" create dramatic economic trends even if they are not particularly "rational" --- OF course I immediately thought of the "narrative" that brainwashed 30 percent of the country in favor of the Trump story of a stolen election --- I think his presentation has some insights and recommend it (and it's short!)
