It might be more a matter of 'eptitude.' To me it is obvious that the
elected national leadership of the DSA - the National Political Committee -
is decoration for the actual national leadership. The actual national
leadership is the larger and more-or-less permanent bureaucracy led most
publicly by Maria Svart. I'm not nursing some personal antagonism to Svart
but i think she personifies the continued original political nature of the
DSA as a loyal Democrat Party ginger group. In my observation/opinion
Svart *et al* lead the young politically inexperienced NPC around.

If you were Maria Svart in 2016+ watching DSA rapidly grow with tens of
thousands of new radically-minded but organizationally naive young people
would you explicitly and aggressively confront these young people with your
reformist politics? I think you would generally keep your innermost
politics to yourself and appear to be 'all things to all people.' So you
can't provide leadership because you're muffling your politics and just
letting the mushrooming growth (you didn't initiate) continue. Instead you
are gently 'riding herd' on a huge sprawling 'hundred flowers blooming' in
various forms all over a large nation.

Maybe the best DSA outcome will be if an elected politically self-confident
and knowledgeable young revolutionary socialist national leadership takes
actual control of the organization. That would take some time to develop
because in these recent growth years NPC potential national leadership has
been stymied (imo to the satisfaction of Svart *et al*) by representation
within it of several of the major competing caucuses with contrasting
political perspectives from across the socialist political spectrum,
including strong 'libertarian'/anarchist and reformist representation.
Maybe a new national revolutionary socialist organization will be
consolidated from among the many revolutionary-minded flowers blooming
inside and outside DSA around the country.
