When the New Republic published the excerpt from The Bell Curve, Charles Lane — who examined every footnote relating to IQ in the book — wrote a column reporting that virtually every source Murray/Herrnstein cited had a neo-Nazi connection. Specifically, M/H were citing people like Richard Lynn, Philippe Rushton and Arthur Jensen — and all of them had received funding from the Pioneer Fund, which was established in 1937 by an admirer of Hitler, a textile manufacturer named Wickliffe Draper, who advocated that blacks be repatriated to Africa. The Pioneer Fund gave tens of millions to academics committed to demonstrating that there is a racial hierarchy in intelligence. Lane detailed that seventeen researchers cited in the book had contributed articles to the notorious journal of “racial history," Mankind Quarterly, funded by the Pioneer Fund. There is a very good book about the Pioneer Fund and the racist “scholars” whose work they financed: William H. Tucker, The Funding of Scientific Racism: Wickliffe Draper and the Pioneer Fund. Also, there was an article in 1994 in Rolling Stone titled “Professors of Hate” that exposed the Pioneer Fund connection to The Bell Curve.
