If they were organized and functioning as a democratic body with a set of aims
and agreed-upon methods, then asking for credentials is needed. Marches have
Monitors or Marshalls, and other credentialed members of a protest action, are
trained to isolate trouble at points along the route or from inside the march,
deal with police, counter protesters, etc. That is, there is some notion of
who is 'in' the 'group' (the marchers) and who is out. Otherwise, how can
anyone be held accountable for their actions? That would be fertile ground for
provocateurs.
