Reading the information about Chinese workers engaging in (very dangerous)
acts of resistance suggests a possible parallel ---

American Slavery (in the US) created a system of total oppression where the
lives of enslaved people were totally circumscribed by rules set both by
owners and the government at large --- YET, because when there were large
groups of slaves it was IMPOSSIBLE to "police" all their actions, the
relationship between enslavers and enslaved was not one of total dominance
--- enslaved people learned how to "resist" in ways that in fract made
their lives (a bit) easier --- one obvious act of resistance was the
breaking of tools --- the other was "taking" things that "belonged" to the
owners --- as Blassingame made clear in THE SLAVE COMMUNITY, there were
elements of resistance that owners ignored at their peril. Though were
were few revolts the owners who engaged in violence knew there were limits.

I am wondering if the "dance" between enslavers and enslaved that has been
well documented in the history of US slavery might not be going on in
"Communist" China between the Chinese workers and the Chinese state ---
this particularly true in capitalist entities --- Any local manager who
fails to see the warning signs of built up pressure from the bottom and
ends up "presiding" over a work stoppage will undoubtedly be sacked or
worse. This will definitely give Chinese workers (some) power over their
lives .... just as the enslaved in the US carved out a bit of self agency.

This is pure speculation as I know virtually nothing about modern China ---
(I learn most of it from this list!!)
