I think once a person starts looking for "sensible solutions" to governing
capitalism, I'd say that they abandoned socialism, not that much unlike Kautsky
as described in Jim Farmelant's recent post,

Kautsky didn't form an alliance with the right, an issue that animates JohnR,
but Kautsky did urge SDP deputies to abstain on a war-credits vote in the
Reichstag that led to Germany's entrance into WWI.
